Frequently Asked Questions
A consultant usually tells you what to do. A coach asks you questions to help you access your inner wisdom so you can decide what is best for you to do. A counselor/therapist is a licensed mental health professional who diagnoses and treats clinical disorders. Coaches are not required to have a coaching certification (Cosana coaches are professionally trained and certified) and do not diagnose or treat clinical disorders.Therapists are trained to help clients work on underlying issues and explore why the eating disorder might have developed. Coaches are trained to work on the “here and now” and assist the client in shifting their day-to-day beliefs and behaviors to be more aligned with their goals, needs, and values.
Healing is a very personal, emotional, and often terrifying endeavor. It is your coach’s job to support you through the fear that comes with healing and encourage you to challenge yourself in ways that enable you to keep moving forward. In working with a coach, you will come to understand the beliefs, behaviors, and relationships that are holding you back from wellness and learn to reframe these things to better serve your needs, values, and goals. In each session, you and your coach will determine the actionable steps for you to take that will assist you in creating a more aligned and fulfilling relationship with food, body, and Self.
- Get to know each other
- Brief health and treatment history
- Discuss current blocks to wellness and goals for healing
- Understand the difference between coaching, consulting, and counseling
Absolutely. You do not have to have a clinical disorder to desire changing your relationship with food. If you are someone who frequently feels the need to eat healthier, lose weight, or be “more disciplined,” coaching will help you identify and overcome the things that are driving you to try to control your food and weight in the first place.
Coaching sessions will help you release food and body related anxiety, build healthier attitudes towards food, and cultivate a more holistic view of self.
Ultimately, how, when, and if you heal is entirely up to you. You get to determine which things about your relationship with food, body, and Self you are ready to change, and which things you are not quite ready to let go of. Simply being honest about where you are at is the most important thing of all. Your coach will always honor your autonomy and meet you where you are at.
Absolutely. My basis for understanding eating disorders and eating disorder recovery is not theoretical, but personal. As a recovered coach, I provide a level of understanding and optimism that other professionals cannot. I am trained to use my personal experience to support you in building the skills to cope with and eventually transform your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to support a more healthy and fulfilling relationship with food, body, and Self. In a coaching relationship, I serve as a tangible role model for this healthy relationship and offer clients hope that full recovery is possible.

Please contact me to learn more.
Yes! I offer a sliding scale for individuals who qualify as low income through a membership-based platform called Open Path Healing Arts Collective. You are welcome to contact us to learn more.
You must be 18 years or older to schedule your own appointments. For clients 17 or younger, I require a “Sponsor” or legal guardian to co-sign the coaching agreement and participate in scheduling appointments, assessing current needs, and determining recovery goals.
If you are actively struggling with an eating disorder or significant mental health concerns, I require that you meet with a therapist and/or dietician to ensure you are following recommended medical treatment. If you are not, we can discuss this in our initial session and I will happily make referrals to the appropriate medical/mental health professional and help you coordinate this.
Cancellations & Rescheduling
- You are welcome to cancel and reschedule appointments at your discretion.
- Cancelling 24-48 hours prior to your appointment will not result in penalties or fees. We are happy to be flexible, so long is our understanding is respected and not abused.
- NOTE: Demand for coaching outweighs our coaches’ current availability. We are working to expand our available days/hours so we can better serve you in the future! If you need to reschedule, please know you may have to skip a week of sessions if you cancel or reschedule last minute.
Last-minute cancellation fee
- Last-minute cancellations are cancellations that occur within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment. They also result in a last-minute cancellation fee, which is the cost of the session. This policy also applies to rescheduling.
- The first time a client requests to cancel last-minute, we will be happy to forgive the last-minute cancellation fee. However, occurrences thereafter will result in the client receiving an invoice for the fee amount.
- If a client cancels more than 4 sessions in a row last-minute, or if the client is in the habit of asking to cancel and/or reschedule, the coach reserves the right to end the coaching relationship and cease to provide services, so long as no services are owed.
We are not currently accepting new clients. We expect openings for coaching and surfing, as well as virtual private yoga sessions in April/May of 2023. Please email haley@cosanacoaching.com to be added to the waitlist and to receive your Client Welcome Packet!
