Eating Disorder Coaching - In-Person Intensive

In-person eating disorder coaching sessions are designed to support individuals in early recovery who are currently working with a treatment team. Due to the intensive and intimate nature of in-person coaching, this service is only available on a contract basis. Contracts can be booked through Recovery Frameworks and will be tailored to your needs and the recommendations from your treatment team, therapist, or dietitian.

Why Work With an Eating Disorder Coach?

The process of recovering from an eating disorder can feel vague and daunting. An eating disorder coach supports you in defining your recovery goals, so you can have a tangible image of wellness to strive towards and clear steps to help you get there. Your coach will support you in setting, achieving, and celebrating little recovery goals. It is through these small steps that you will create sustainable changes in your relationship with food, body, and self.

This can look like:

  • Grocery shopping, cooking, and sharing meals
  • Walking on the beach, exercising, or practicing yoga
  • Helping you clean out your closet and go shopping
  • Eating at restaurants together
  • Phone or video chat sessions
  • Supporting the work you are doing with your treatment team, therapist, or dietitian

In-The-Moment Support

While the idea of using new coping skills sounds great in a therapy session, they can be hard to implement in-the-moment outside of their office. A coach is able to support you in exercising coping skills when the desire to engage in disordered behaviors arises. They can also support you in implementing your meal plan, confronting fear foods, and releasing guilt and shame about the food you eat and the changes your body may go through as you recover. In person sessions are wonderful because they offer you the opportunity to be supported through hard moments both big and small. Your coach is your number one cheerleader, and will help you build resilience and maintain momentum through the ups and downs of recovery.

Embodiment Activities

A more fun aspect of working with a coach during recovery is the ability to engage in “embodiment activities” together. These are activities that get you into your body and out of your head. Embodiment activities like surfing, yoga, rollerblading, and walking on the beach connect you to your physical experience instead of your physical appearance and shift your thinking from “how does my body look?” to “how does my being feel?” The more often you can be present in your body, the more you will live your life from a 1st person perspective (as opposed to a judgmental bystander). Releasing yourself from this judgmental bystander builts acceptance for and appreciation of your body’s capabilities. It also helps get you to a critical point in recovery where you are able to see yourself as more than a body. And when we can see ourselves as a whole person, not just as a body, life becomes significantly more fun.
